A provenance certificate is a scannable, permanent record of authenticity and ownership that stays with the physical artwork — from the artist’s studio to every collector after.
A unique, unguessable certificate is generated for the physical artwork, with a QR code the artist attaches to the back of the work or its documentation.
When the work sells — on Artizen Trail or in person via ownership transfer — the change of hands is written to the certificate by the platform, never by hand.
Scanning the code shows the work’s title, artist, medium and its chain of custody — how many times it has changed hands and when, all the way back to the artist’s studio.
Ownership records are written only by the platform when a sale or transfer actually happens. Neither buyers nor sellers can edit history.
The public certificate never names an owner. It shows that transfers happened and when — and whether the seller was the original artist — nothing more.
Certificates live at unguessable addresses that cannot be enumerated, and a compromised certificate can be reissued without losing its history.
